Is the Redex ceramic detailer any good? Is it worth it?

Yes, for what it promises: an SiO₂ layer that repels water and restores gloss in five minutes, no machine needed. It's not a multi-year ceramic coating; it's the quick step between washes, at the price of a shelf product rather than a professional detailer.

How long does the effect last?

We can't give you a number of days: it depends on how often you wash the car and where you keep it. The sign is visual: when water stops running off in beads and starts spreading across the paint again, it's time to reapply. Five minutes and it's done again.

Does this replace a ceramic coating?

No. It's a quick detailer with SiO₂ siloxanes that repels water, adds gloss and protects between washes. It needs no curing and doesn't do what a professional coating applied in a studio does, and it doesn't cost the same either.

Can I apply it myself, with no detailing experience?

Yes. That's what it's designed for: spray, spread with the microfibre and go over it with another clean one, section by section. No curing, no polisher, no learning curve. The only thing to watch is doing it in the shade, on cool paint, because in the sun the product dries before you can spread it.

Which surfaces can I apply it to?

Bodywork and clear coat, on all paint types. It's an exterior product: for glass, wheels and the interior, the range has its own formulas.

Is it the same as a spray ceramic wax?

Yes, it's the spray equivalent. The difference is in the chemistry: a traditional wax is carnauba-based and needs buffing; this is an SiO₂ siloxane sealant you apply and wipe off without polishing. The result you're after, hydrophobic beading and gloss, is the same goal, just in a formula with no curing and no machine.
